Advantages of Registering

a Copyright

1.  Registering a copyright establishes a public record of the copyright claim.

2.  If there's an infringement suit involved, works of U.S. origin must be copyrighted.

3.  Establishes evidence in court.

4.  If registration is made within three months of publication of the work by someone else or prior to an infringement of the work, the copyright owner is entitled to statutory damages and attorney's fees in court actions. If the copyright is not registered, it will only be possible to be awarded actual damages and profits.

5.  It's possible for the copyright owner to record the registration with U.S. Customs. This can prevent the importation of infringing copies.
